“I’m not here for a long time but I’m here for a bloody good time” – Harley Davidson April, 2015
I tutor this guy named Harley Davidson – yes that is his real name, that’s how bad ass he is. He’s a photographer from Sydney’s Western Suburbs but he perfected the art form in Sydney’s Inner West in the 70’s and 80’s. He’s photographed and printed for some of the biggest names in Australian advertising and was a professional black and white printer back in day. An accident back in the late 80’s left him with a Traumatic Brain Injury, but don’t make any mistake this guy is fully with it and still rocking the Single Lens Reflex like a pro.
“When I get onto something I just hang on” – HD
Harley sees the world as before the accident and after the accident but he also sees the world as before analogue and after analogue. He feels like when he came to after years of rehab the whole world was turning digital. He didn’t shoot for 8 years, then his dad bought him a Nikon D90 and he was back.
I’ve been working with Harley for nearly 3 years re-introducing him to the world of photography and the new digital world.
Today Harley edited these images he took at Cronulla in Lightroom with only a small amount of assistance from me. This is a huge moment for him considering he’d only just started using a computer a couple of months ago.
