Florence, Italy

Entering central Florence, walking through the cobbled streets, looking up at all of the magnificent architecture, I'm taken back in time.

The city is filled with people walking from place to place.  Most people in the centre near the Duomo are tourist or hagglers – so you gotta cross the bridge to get out of the trap.  Popping into a local grocery is the best for lunch, we just grabbed some pesto, bread, cheese and of course wine and sat on the riverside and soaked it all in.

The walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo is literally hell on earth – steepest ever. From the Piazzale Michelangelo you have the best view of the city and hundreds flock here for sunset – totally worth it despite the people. Gorgeous views, amazing light and plenty of awesome classic cars.

A definite highlight which was completely unexpected was seeing Michelangelo’s ‘Statue of David’ at the Galleria dell’Accademia‎. It. Is. Amazing.  A truly stunning sculpture that completely takes your breath away.  To the Galleria’s credit they don’t let too many people in at one time to see the statue – so there’s no massive crowd. You can get really close and take it in.  Stunning.

Florence is a great city to just wander and photograph.  From the busy centre streets, to the hills on the outskirts of town, to the small piazza’s filled with locals – it is a photographers dream.
